Pale purple coneflower
Pale purple coneflower (Echinacea pallida) is the drier-site cousin of purple coneflower, with narrower, drooping petals and a deep taproot that carries it through mid-summer drought. It is a required-count forb in many CP42 pollinator mixes because it blooms in the June gap between spring and late-summer nectar sources.

Site fit

Establishment
Seed requires 30–60 days of cold-moist stratification, so dormant seeding from November through early March is strongly preferred. Plant shallow (1/8 inch or surface-pressed). Expect a low rosette the first season and first bloom in year two or three.
Management
Tolerates late-spring prescribed burns once established. Avoid broadleaf herbicides at any stage. A high establishment-year mow at 8–10 inches protects rosettes while suppressing annual weeds.
